The public comment period for the CNMI Joint Military Training Draft EIS/OEIS is closed. Thank you for your comments. The Department of Navy announces its intent to prepare a Supplement to the CJMT Draft EIS/OEIS.

The Department of Navy (DoN) announces its intent to prepare a Supplement to the CJMT Draft EIS/OEIS, which was released for public review and comment from April 3, 2015 through October 1, 2015 Eastern Standard Time (EST) (October 2, 2015 Chamorro Standard Time [ChST]). The Supplement to the Draft EIS/OEIS will address substantial changes to the proposed action and new information relevant to environmental concerns raised during the Draft EIS/OEIS public comment period.

The Supplement will include additional information on potential impacts to the groundwater aquifer on Tinian and coral on Tinian and Pagan, including associated mitigation. The full scope of the Supplement will not be determined until the DoN reviews and considers all public and agency comments on the Draft EIS/OEIS; however, it will focus on those resource areas that require additional analysis based on public and agency comments and consultation with cooperating agencies.

The DoN expects the Supplement to the Draft EIS/OEIS to be completed in early 2016. At that time, a notice of availability will be published in the Federal Register and local newspapers, and the public will have an opportunity to review and comment on the Supplement. All public comments previously received on this project are still valid and will be considered in preparing the Final EIS/OEIS. The DoN would like to thank the public for submitting over 27,000 comments and looks forward to continuing the dialogue.
